Alex Shepherd passes away after a tough battle with brain cancer.
Adam writes a message to fans on his mailing list regarding new music coming, as well as going in a new direction he did not expect or plan on. "Hello all: Just a friendly update from snowy Owatonna, MN. I wanted to say how grateful I am for your patience regarding the amount of time that has passed since my last album. The finalization of my new record has indeed taken longer than any of us would've liked (nobody more than me), and so I wanted to provide you with a bit of insight to bring you up to speed. Due to a variety of situations beyond my control, my hands have been tied and that is why its been quiet in Owl City lately. My original plans were pushed back which prevented me from releasing the album and begin touring a few months ago as I would've liked. But as is common, the creative process can be a stop-and-go journey, and while frustrating for everyone involved, delays are inevitable from time to time. So I wanted to write this letter to make certain everyone knows I have not become idle or inactive, but quite the contrary! I am more excited than ever to show you the material I've been sitting on over the past six months. All of this to say: I apologize for the delay. I don't want to keep you waiting because I myself am chomping at the bit, but again, due to circumstances beyond my control, a bit more time is necessary before I can dive in again. So while I cannot yet provide you with a lot of details, I can surely say that the album is finished and will be out later this year, and I will look forward to seeing all of you on tour. My deepest thanks and regards to you for your patience! Adam"

Joshua Morris (WSDG project manager): “Adam Young’s manager Steve Bursky had been impressed by our Jungle City Studio in NYC when he worked there a couple of years ago. When Adam decided to build a studio in his new home, Bursky suggested that he talk with us. I visited the site and met with him to get a true sense of what he was looking for. The local contractor was extremely meticulous in his efforts to meet all the requirements of our drawings. The results of our final acoustic measurements for reverberation time and Sound isolation all met or exceeded our goals. This studio is a gem.”
Adam: "WSDG absolutely captured my vision for the facility. They did a fantastic job of providing me with all kinds of options, so that I could choose accordingly what felt the most ideal to my working scenario."

Adam, on "My Everything": "'My Everything' is my attempt at summing up how important my faith is to me, and certainly how much it influences, not just the decisions I make creatively as an artist, but every area of my life across the whole board. My hope with this song is that it serves as an encouragement to people who might be feeling spiritually weary or tired. I always forget that there are places in everybody's lives where there's this deep, dark place that nobody knows about, and my hope is that this song touches that and hopefully provides some kind of encouragement to somebody who needs it. I feel like, at the end of the day, if somebody's mood is lightened for 30 seconds or a minute while they're driving to work because of this song, I feel like my job is done."

David Weiss with SonicScoop publishes an article where Adam discusses his newly-built home studio he affectionately names "Sky Harbor Studios."
Adam: "I first began making music entirely on my own with no producer, no engineer, no co-writer, etc..., so my introduction to working in a creative setting was very solitary. My first creative endeavors were by myself in my bedroom which cemented the way in which I prefer to work: with full control across all aspects. As the years went by and I gained a relative amount of success, I always knew I wanted to build a facility of my own so that I could continue to do what I do best at a much higher level of quality. The few times I have worked in commercial facilities, I felt uncomfortable and my creativity suffered because of that - so it made total sense to build a studio of my own."

We connected with so many different things that we remember as kids, things that we thought were so mind-blowing as far as technology and kind of the latest, greatest thing at the time. In a lot of cases, depending on the product, it isn't really around anymore. We had a blast just being like, 'I forgot all about this. You guys remember this thing and this thing?' Just trying to find all these ways to work nostalgia into song. So, that track is kind of a trip down memory lane a little bit."

CrossRhythms publishes an article where Adam is interviewed by Tony Cummings. Adam discusses the negative response he received with the song "Tokyo" as well as the success of his recent album, entitled Mobile Orchestra.
Adam: "With anything that you do, for anybody, there's always going to be somebody who loves it, somebody who hates it, somebody in the middle. I feel like I read a stat once that was like, 'If you put something out, there's five percent of everyone who loves it, five percent who hates it, and 90% of people who just kind of check it out and move on.' So, it's definitely a trick to not dwell on the good or the bad. In terms of reading reviews online and things like that, I feel like I've nailed down a super healthy approach at that stuff. So, I will definitely check it out a little bit, but the moment it feels like I', dwelling on it too much or thinking about it too much, I step back and remember at the end of the day, I've just got to do the best job that I know how to do and just be sincere and be honest, try to do the right thing. At the end of the day, people will talk and that's totally cool and I'll just keep fighting the good fight."

Adam announces through his newsletter that he will be starting a new project starting February 1, 2016, with further information coming on January 1, 2016.
Adam's full newsletter statement: "Hello friends, Hope you're having a fabulous winter! I just realized 2015 is nearing a close so I wanted to send you a quick note. A special thanks to everyone who attended the "On the Verge" tour this year. I cannot tell you how overjoyed I was to see you there each night and meeting many of you encouraged me in more ways that you'll never know. The tour would not have been possible without your support so my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you (and thanks to the kid who gave me the skateboard in Atlanta)! I owe immeasurably much to my band and my crew as well, so endless thanks to them for helping me do what I do. Best tour yet. Along with the release of Mobile Orchestra and the countless wonderful things I've been lucky to do over the past 12 months, I am truly thankful for 2015 and can't wait for 2016. Which brings me to the present moment. Admittedly, I've been quite on social media for a few weeks because I've stumbled upon an idea which has all but consumed my creative heart-and-soul and I am tremendously excited about it. I cannot give many details right now, but I'm hatching a plot that involves doing something different than anything I've ever done, and yet is something I've always dreamed of doing. It is separate from Owl City and involves music but that's about all I can say. My team and I are working on a project that will launch February 1st of 2016, with news coming January 1st, and I think you will be amazed. For years, I've wanted to do something I've either not had the time nor energy to focus on - but at long last, the time has come. More details to follow. God bless & happy holidays. - Adam"
